Hog Invasion Patterning

The feral hog population in Louisiana is estimated to be 700,000+ and are found in all 64 parishes.  Hogs are said to be the most reproductively efficient large mammal on Earth.  Due to the feral hog’s high reproductive rate, 70 to 75% of the population must be harvested annually to control the population.

Hogs can adapt to survive in nearly any environment and have a significant negative impact on the natural habitat.  One of the biggest impacts feral hogs have is how they displace native wildlife and compete for limited food resources.  They uproot both planted and naturally regenerated coniferous and hardwood seedlings. Their heavy consumption of hard mast significantly reduces natural forest regeneration.

Farmers and ranchers also share a significant portion of the damage caused by the rooting of fields, depredation of crops, and the destruction of fences.  We can work with you as the landowner/steward to identify the scope of your feral hog population, and provide you with the information you need to combat this invasive creature.
